Sai Wan Tramway Factory - Take the "Ding Ding" to see urban changes: tram workshop
Description
You may be wondering, where are the Canal in Canal Road and the mountain in Morrison Hill? Why are some places named after natural features, but their views are nowhere to be seen?
In conjunction with the cultural heritage thematic exhibition "Happy Valley: Cultural Landscape", this brand-new parent-child workshop leads participants to explore the city on a tram, and allows children to understand the development history of Hong Kong Island through observation and artistic creation. As one of the earliest forms of transportation in Hong Kong, tram tracks have witnessed changes in the city's coastline and land use.
We invite participants to take a tram and travel through the streets from Western District to Happy Valley. Along the way, they can compare the city's present and past looks through historical photos and take a closer look at the changes after land reclamation. Adults and children will also create their own hand-drawn maps together.
This workshop hopes to allow children to gain a deeper understanding of the city they live in and understand the relationship between humans and the natural environment.
"Happy Valley: A Cultural Landscape" is part of the Hong Kong Jockey Club's 140th anniversary celebrations.
Children aged 5 to 12 are welcome to participate in pairs with their parents or guardians
Cost: $430 for two people (fee includes a material package including hand-drawn maps)
